Does EPASS WMS work over VPN?

Yes, the Android scanners used with EPASS WMS can be set up to function over a VPN connection.

Typically barcode scanners are set up on the same wifi network as your EPASS server, so no VPN is required. 

If you have a remote location which is on a different network, we recommend setting up a site-to-site VPN so that all devices on the network are able to communicate with the EPASS server.

If you have users in the field and would like to have them use a barcode scanner, this is also possible. However – you should note the following considerations:

1. The barcode scanner needs an internet connection. This can be accomplished by setting up a SIM card with cellular data access on the device. Another option is to connect via wifi to a hotspot on a cellular phone.
2.  You will need an Android VPN client which must be installed and activated on the barcode scanner in order for it to communicate with your EPASS server.
3. There are many different VPN clients and cellular networks so we cannot guarantee compatibility and the support we provide may be limited. We strongly suggest you test this solution thoroughly before implementing it.
