Click to Pay Credit Card Upcharge Workaround

Overview

Since automatic credit card upcharges are not yet supported with Click to Pay, EPASS clients can follow these instructions to manually add an upcharge to CTP payments. Using this workaround involves manually adding a credit card upcharge miscellaneous code, and then sending a CTP payment link with the Requested Amount feature enabled. Using the Requested Amount feature is essential as it forces the customer to pay the Invoice total and the upcharge.

Before Starting

  1. If necessary, create a Misc code for the credit card upcharge.

  2. EPASS Users will need the following security options:
    • Click to Pay – View Payment Link
    • Click to Pay – Allow Requested Amount

They will also need Misc Security Add/Edit permission for the Security Group that the Misc code belongs to. Refer to Misc Type Security Groups for more info.

Adding the Upcharge

  1. Calculate the upcharge on the balance of the invoice.

  2. Add the upcharge Misc code to the invoice.

  3. On the Invoice Header, click Payment Link.

  4. In the Click to Pay Payment Link window, select Requested Amount and then enter the Invoice total (including the upcharge).
  5. Click Copy (you don’t have to click Generate Link) to paste the link in an email or text to the customer.

Note: Since the Requested Amount feature is used, when the customer follows the link to the payment portal, they can’t edit the Amount Paying field. Their only option is to pay the total invoice amount.
